To encourage true community-building, it’s important guidelines are set to support open and respectful communication within this community. With this in mind, we request that the following guidelines be respected.
General Social Media Guidelines
- Respect the boundaries of community members.
- Be tolerant towards others’ viewpoints; respectfully disagree when opinions do not align.
- Respect the privacy and personal information of other alumni.
- Do not make personal attacks on, bully, or make inflammatory remarks to other community members, or post prejudiced comments.
- Posts and comments should be in the support of alumni health and success and related to conversations within the community.
- Communicate responsibly. These activities are intended to keep alumni in touch with one another, to help facilitate networking, to celebrate common interests, and to encourage conversation. Be respectful of your peers.
Consequences
LVA Alumni Association Board Members are tasked with maintaining a productive and community-minded environment for LVA alumni to interact. Any behavior that is brought to the attention of Board Members that may undermine the welcoming and supportive nature of the community will be directly addressed. Repeated instances of inappropriate behavior may result in revoking access to alumni activities and resources.
Agreement
By engaging in LVA Alumni Association activities and programming, you are considered to be in agreement with community guidelines and accept them as mutual values of the members of this community.
Social Media Group Guidelines
Group Setup
- Pending-member questions are set up to help identify new members and include the following:
- What was your last year of attendance at LVA?
- What was your major?
- Only group administrators and moderators will have the ability to approve new members.
- It is the responsibility of group administrators and moderators to uphold and enforce the community guidelines.
Guidelines
- You must have attended LVA as a student.
- Treat others online as you would treat them in real life.
- Be tolerant towards others’ viewpoints; respectfully disagree when opinions do not align.

- Do not make personal attacks on, bully, or make inflammatory remarks to other community members, or post prejudiced comments.
- Posts and comments should be in the support of alumni health and success and related to conversations within the group.
- Use messaging and email responsibly. These tools are intended to keep alumni in touch with one another, to help facilitate networking, and to promote common interests. Some examples might include inviting local area alumni to an event or to join an activity, or reaching out to individual alumni for advice, to reconnect, or to join a group. (Note that you should always let the LVA Alumni Association know if you are planning an event. We’d love to talk about how we can support it.)
Consequences
The administrators/moderators of this group will take action when we see someone violating these guidelines. Sometimes that may mean bringing something to a member’s attention; other times it may mean revoking certain privileges or accounts entirely.
